The Food Processing Center: The Food Processing Center understands the technology and business of food. Our unique combination of technical and marketing expertise attracts hundreds of food processing companies each year. We are equipped to work with products in every major food group. Our state-of-the-art pilot plants are the perfect transition between laboratory and marketplace. We can assist with packaging, sensory evaluations, chemical analysis, shelf life studies, risk analysis and processing techniques. We can even help with market development and referrals. Workshops offered: Applied Extrusion for Human and Pet Food Manufacturing - We offer an intensive, hands-on workshop combining extrusion theory and techniques with extrusion exercises emphasizing real-world problem development. Participants will have access to a Wenger Manufacturing, Inc. TX-57 twin screw and an X20 single screw extruders, industry experts and faculty from the Department of Food Science and Technology. Ingredients & Ingredient Functionality - This workshop is aimed toward Ingredient Suppliers, Marketing Specialists, and Product Development Scientists. The three-day format combines lectures and hands-on demonstrations exploring the chemistry and functionality of major ingredient classes. Participants will have access to a Wenger Manufacturing, Inc. TX-57 twin screw extruder, the UNL dairy processing facilities, the UNL meat processing facilities, and faculty from the Department of Food Science and Technology. Better Process Control School - A certification course for supervisors of thermal food processing operations, acidified food processing operations, and food container closure operations.
