WENGER TECHNICAL CENTER

The Wenger Technical Center is an agrifood laboratory with research and production scale extrusion equipment available for our clients; and customers; processing needs.

Included in this unique facility are two complete extrusion pilot plants, one equipped with a state-of-the-art twin screw extruders and ancillary equipment for cutting, drying, toasting, cooling, flaking, and enrobing for food product demonstrations; the second, equipped with both twin screw and single screw extruders completely accessorized for the production of petfoods, aquatic feeds, and other specialty animal feeds.

A typical demonstration in the Technical Center will require one full day, including pre- and post-extrusion discussions and project review. The program typically consists of 3 to 5 runs, the scope of which will depend upon the materials processed and the equipment being evaluated.

In addition to 5 sizes of cooking extruders, clients also have access to low-shear forming extruders which may be operated with, or independent of, high and medium shear cooking extruders.

Wenger's Technical Center has been designed for product and process R&D and for demonstrating Wenger extrusion systems on a diverse range of products for humans, companion animals, commercial aquatic species, and for industrial uses. It is designed for maximum flexibility and is not a State or Federal inspected food processing plant. Product samples produced in the Center should be used accordingly.

The Technical Center staff is experienced in all aspects of extrusion processing and will address each client's processing needs with the most suitable extrusion technology - twin-screw or single-screw.

Wenger also maintains a cooperative relationship at a number of major universities equipped to perform extrusion related research on behalf of industry clients. Access is available, by prearrangement, to these University Technical Centers for demonstrations on products with which these Centers are best equipped to handle.
