ADVANTAGES OF VERTICAL DESIGN OVER HORIZONTAL DESIGN:

  • Dropping between decks knocks friable edges from product pieces, permitting  potential fines to be removed during processing,  greatly reducing end user complaints of excess fines in packages.
  • Batching product transfer between decks allows product separation permitting quick product changeover.
  • Greater moisture uniformity results from turning product over more times.
  • No horizontal floors mean dryer remains clean without fines drag system.
  • Counterflow design provides higher process efficiencies (see page 2).
  • Requires less plant floor space.
  • No conveyor system means less maintenance and cleaning.
  • No internal ledges for product to collect on.

DISADVANTAGES OF VERTICAL DESIGN OVER HORIZONTAL DESIGN:

  • Greater plant ceiling height required.
  • Not suitable for fragile products.
  • Not suitable for sticky products.
  • Not suitable for products smaller than 2.2 mm.
  • Because of height, routine maintenance can be more difficult.

ADVANTAGES OF WENGER VERTICAL DESIGN OVER COMPETITOR'S DESIGN:

  • Recirculation ducting, burners and fans are inside insulated box, reducing plant space required, and simplifying installation.
  • Airborne fines are removed at each deck using an internal settling chamber (Patent Pending), eliminating need for cyclone collectors.
  • Insulation is integral part of design, thus simplifying installation.
  • Dryer is pre-wired and pre-piped to speed up installation.
  • Dryer frame and support structure is designed for up to nine dryer decks and two cooler decks, including weight of catwalks.
